The Board of Education of Manhattan School District 114, in the County of Will and the State of Illinois, met at Manhattan Junior High School on July 8, 2008 in regular session.

 

 

ROLL CALL:

 

President, Christopher Ambrosini, called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

 

1.       Present: Joseph Knoll, Timothy Doyle, Scott Mancke, Nick Polyak, Jeff Pietrzyk, and Gerald Elder.

 

2.       Absent: none

 

3.       Others present: Mary Bernhard, Howard Butters, Sue Cooper, Cathy Jenkins, Ron Pacheco and Pete Slattery.

 

 

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA:

 

N. Polyak made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda as presented, with a second by T. Doyle.  Roll Call Vote: J. Pietrzyk – aye, Gerald Elder  – aye, N. Polyak – aye, S. Mancke – aye, T. Doyle – aye, and J. Knoll– aye.  Motion Carried.

GOOD NEWS

 

 

Principal, Ron Pacheco, reported that the buildings are looking good.  Music camps will be starting soon. 

 

Supt. Butters stated that T. Doyle was acknowledged by Lincolnway Area Special Education for his efforts in raising funds for the Lose your Training Wheels Program.

 

 

 

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:

 

Supt. Butters reported that the FY09 Tentative Budget is complete.  Each Board member has the budget summary for review.  The budget total is $12,810,310.  J.Pietrzyk made a motion to approve the FY09 tentative budget as presented, with a second by N. Polyak.  All voted aye.  The budget will be on display until the September 9th Board meeting at which time the public hearing will be held.

 

Supt. Butters reported that our current auditor, Charles Voigts, will not be able to do the annual audit which was scheduled for the third week in July.  Supt. Butters stated that he has checked with other firms and the only firm able to do at this late date is Mulcahy, Pauritsch, Salvador & Co., LTD.  The proposal is for three years, but also gave a one year contract if the Board preferred.  Our attorney has looked over the proposal as well.  J.Knoll made a motion to approve the one year contract with Mulcahy, Pauritsch, Salvador & Co., LTD for $17,000 for FY08, with a second by T. Doyle.  Roll Call Vote: T. Doyle – aye, S. Mancke – aye, J. Knoll – aye, N. Polyak – aye, J. Pietrzyk – aye,  and G. Elder – aye.  Motion Carried.

 

Supt. Butters stated that the Board was given the Lincolnway Area Special Education FY09 budget to review.  Sally Bintz will be present at the next meeting to go over the budget and answer any questions.

 

Supt. Butters stated between June 20th – 21st graffiti was put on the Band trailer and paintball was on the front doors of the junior high school.

 

C. Ambrosini suggested the possible use of security cameras.  Pricing on this will be obtained.

CLOSED SESSION:

 

G. Elder made a motion to move into Closed Session for litigation, employment, compensation, evaluation and/or dismissal of personnel, review of Closed Session Minutes, and real estate, at 7:25 p.m., with a second by T. Doyle.  All voted aye.

 

G. Elder made a motion to reconvene from Closed Session at 7:45 p.m., with a second by N. Polyak.  All voted aye.

 

J. Pietrzyk made a motion to accept the resignation of the staff member discussed in Closed Session, with a second by T. Doyle.  All voted aye.

 

J. Pietrzyk made a motion to hire one full-time aide, with a second by G. Elder.  Roll Call Vote: J. Knoll – aye, S. Mancke – aye, G. Elder – aye, J. Pietrzyk – aye, and N. Polyak – aye.  Motion Carried.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

The Board received a letter from Rep. Tom Cross, a Lincoln-Way invite, and Senior Expo on 7/15/08 at Wilson Creek.

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

The Lose your Training Wheels Program will be at Pioneer Grove July 14th – 18th.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

G. Elder made a motion to adjourn at 7:50 p.m., with a second by J. Pietrzyk.  All voted aye.  The next meeting is August 12, 2008 at Wilson Creek Elementary School.
