grief

Four members of the Lincoln-Way District 210 PPS department joined Manhattan Junior High staff and families on Monday, October 27th. The group, trained through the Grief Sensitive Schools initiative, provided practical advice for parents as they navigate the recent losses and grief with their students.

The presentation included:

  • Managing your capacity and presence to support your child

  • An overview of the stages of grief

  • Understanding that we all experience grief differently

  • How parents can help children rebuild trust and safety

  • Remembering those we've lost

  • Talking with your child about their feelings

  • Suggestions for activities while grieving

  • Things to avoid when supporting your grieving child

  • Seeking additional support for your child or family

  • Book and journal recommendations

They graciously provided their slides and resources for us to share with our community. If any member of the Manhattan community is in need of direction in finding support for yourself or your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to the social workers or counselors at any of our Manhattan School District 114 schools.
