This past Friday, MJHS held its first "In-House Rewards Activity" for students! Staff planned for the day, which included movies and crafts in the classrooms, games in the Commons, and dodgeball in the gym! Thanks to our staff for their efforts, especially members of our SLT Committee! Go Demons!
Over the last few weeks, our 8th-grade STEM engineers have been hard at work designing, building, testing, redesigning, retesting (and repeating the cycle) their marble roller coasters! It was incredible to see their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills at work! Great work, Demons!

MIS 4th grade students put their inferencing skills to the test in a thrilling “whodunit!" Using their comprehension, reasoning, and sharp inferencing abilities, students gathered information and pieced together clues to solve the mystery of Mr. McWilliams’ disappearance. In the end, their detective work revealed that Mrs. Paskauskas was the culprit, and Mr. McWilliams returned safely to lead MIS for another day!
On Friday, MJHS hosted the first House Olympics of the school year! Volunteers from all five Houses competed in two games: Hula-Hoop Rock, Paper, Scissors and The Floor is Lava! Congratulations to the Hawks, the winners and now keepers of the House Cup! Thanks to Mrs. Benfante for the pictures of the event!
ROCK YOUR SCHOOL at Anna Mac was amazing!
MSD114 students and staff at all four schools participated in two very important drills during Safety Week! Thanks to the support and involvement Manhattan Fire Protection and the Manhattan Police Department, we ran full evacuation and lockdown drills. In addition to practicing procedures and expectations with our students, we were able to test our alarms, run our blue light alert system that also calls 9-1-1, and time dispatch's response.
While we hope to never experience these scenarios, we are continuously building on our practices and procedures to be prepared!
Last night, our Demons' Cross-Country Program hosted the DPVC Conference Meet at the Round Barn! 21 Manhattan runners earned PRs in the big race, including two All-Conference performances as well as a Conference Champion, winning the 2-mile race with a time of 11:14! Good luck to our runners as they host the IESA Sectional Meet next Saturday at the Round Barn!

Our 7th-grade scientists were hard at work on their Onion Lab today at MJHS (while providing quite the aroma in the classes and halls)! Students got the chance to examine the cell structure while bettering their skills using microscopes!
2nd Grade enjoyed a walking field trip to the Sunflower Farm across the street. It was a great way to start their plant unit in science!
3rd Grade students learned all about Manhattan's history in class. The unit wrapped up with a walking field trip to the Manhattan Historical Museum to see many relics. Thank you to all the volunteers at the Historical Museum that made this trip possible. We love our small town!
Our 8th-grade ELA classes participated in some station work to review concepts dealing with writing as well as parts of the plot line in stories. The students wear highly engaged in the activities, collaborating with one another (with the guidance of staff) to ensure learning!
The entire MSD114 staff engaged in a full day of learning and collaboration at yesterday's Institute Day. In both districtwide and building-level activities, staff engaged in work related to our strategic goal areas of rigorous curriculum and engaged learners as well as safe learning spaces.
